Breakfast is the first and most important meal of the day (and yes, it doesn’t mean getting up at 4 in the morning and having that leftover burger). “Have breakfast like a king” they say, and they are not wrong. It is our fuel which helps us get through the worst of Mondays. A bad breakfast can lead to lethargy, loss of concentration, hunger and ultimately a bad day. Breakfast should be a combination of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and all essential nutrients. Here are some foods that would help you achieve that.

1. Oats

Oats are probably the healthiest of all foods. It has practically everything. From protein to folate to omega – 3 fatty acids to carbs. Oatmeal is a quick and healthy way to start your day.

It also is packed with fibre that would help cut down on your cholesterol. All those looking to lose weight without falling too weak, this is the perfect thing for you. Talk about an all in one breakfast.

2. Eggs

Once blamed for having too much cholesterol, eggs are now treated as one of the healthiest foods you can eat. A tremendous source of protein and Vitamin E, eggs are the purest form of food.

Contrary to belief eggs cause no digestion problems at all. All the bodybuilders around the world, grab your pack of eggs to maximise those gains.

3. Bananas

The god of fruits in terms of health. Possessing healthy amounts of resistant starch, potassium and essential vitamins it truly is a health basket. Add it to your bowl of cereal or oats and you will never need unhealthy sugar again.

4. Almond Butter

Similar to peanut butter but with less fat. It contains a healthy amount of mono-saturated (good) fat. Those of you who don’t get a lot of protein or nuts can go for almond butter on brown bread for a great breakfast.

Toss in a few banana slices and toast it for a wholesome meal.

5. Quinoa

Similar to oats, the quinoa is also a complete food and a complete protein. It has all nine essential amino acids, phosphorous, fibre, vitamin E, calcium and magnesium. Half of us didn’t even know such nutrients exist.

A natural fat burner and cholesterol fighter, quinoa is a great meal to have in itself.
